Get a phenom II 940 or intel 9550 with a 260gtx and 4 gigs of ram and it will be under $1000 with the other parts such as hdd at 1 tb and sound card.No need for an i7.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Get something based around an Intel Core i7 920. Recent Nvidia or ATI graphics cards in the US$100 to $150 range will have all the graphics power you need. Unless you plan on playing games.

I got this Computer. It had everything I wanted for a real cheap price! (It's TAX free weekend in NC and SC) Best Buy didn't even know they had it because the i7 is so new! Thanks for helping me,

Looks good. You might want to add a smallish hard drive to clone your OS to and set as "C" drive, and use the 1TB drive for your editing.
Pull! Bang! Darn! -
why does such a beast of a PC have such a silly name...essentio? and they use the word "lush" at least twice in the description..where do they find these people

I wish California would have a tax free weekend. I'd buy a car and a sailboat.

2) if you are editing SD mpeg-2 video then any modern cpu faster than an X3 720 is enough, if you are doing Hi Def H264, Divx or VC-1 then even the fastest desktop isn't fast enough to perform real time editing and/or encoding, so spending the extra dough on a high end system that still offers sub-real time performance is a waste of money.
personally if i had to build a new system right now i would do it as cheaply as possible:
Q8200 - $120
G41 based motherboard - <$100
9800gt - $125
4 gigs ddr2 1066 - <$100
i'm guessing you will probably be reusing your current hard drives, optical drive, case and power supply.
that will only set you back about $450 + tax and save the rest of your budgeted amount.
btw, since you mentioned gaming, check out the batman: arkham asylum demo, it's everything resident evil 5 should have been and i would argue that it sets the standard by which all other games of related genres should be judged. -

Also, the lynnfield and clarkdale are the lower end mainstream processors so the high end bloomfield based processors such as the i7's won't be going down in price much if at all until their own respective replacements come out. I don't believe we'll see mainstream real time editing for high def material for at least another few years or more so it doesn't really matter what you get now. If you asked me, I'd say that buying a computer is all about future-proofing. You'd want to buy the best you can now so that you don't regret it later wishing you'd bought something better. But, I suppose to each his own, and plus the OP already bought a computer
