I had a HDD based camcorder. It was filming down a hill it slipped outta my hand and broke. That wouldn't have happened if I didn't havea HDD based camcorder. The vibrations from being mounting to the top of the bike handle was too much. So flash memory here I come.
I've been looking at the Panasonic HDC-TM300. Looks really good. Some flaws with it being only to record 17 MBps opposed to the 24 Mbps my HG20 could record. I've looked at the HF S10 and it doesn't have a view finder or a manual focus ring. Any suggestion would be great.
Primary uses: Filming skateboarding, biking, and snowbaording. So it need to last the cold temps.

You might want to do a search on sports video cameras. You'll need something designed for high impact. If you drop most consumer camcorders while going downhill, they will break.
Also, you'll need to consider the effects of cold weather on fogging up lenses. -
