I've been at a loss the past few weeks with Zoom Player (6 and 7RC)'s audio. Downloaded videos and music are playing at lower volume in ZP than with VLC and WMP 11, sometimes at very low volume, even with volume slide all the way up. In checking a variety of videos where this is a problem, they are of two audio types: most are AC-3, some are MPEG audio (MP3) (checked with MediaInfo). I installed codecs for these to see if that was the problem, but no dice. With music I see, for example, MPEG, FLA stream and WMA2 audio. In addition, at least sometimes the music doesn't sound as clear with ZP as with the others.

The only possible intervening event, or at least it was temporally proximate, was a change of motherboards from a MSI K8NGM2 (AMD) to a Gigabyte Athlon 64 X2 board and back twice, ending up with the latter (an RMA for the Gigabyte in there). I've got the latest Gigabyte/Realtek HD audio driver loaded and have uninstalled the K8's Realtek ALC880. I hesitate to add this type of information because so often people go in the wrong direction with it, but just in case...

So, what could be causing low/lower volume with ZP? Where should I be looking? Thanks.

I've ran into that problem before. Have you tried uninstalling Zoom, then reinstalling? That has cleared it up for me in the past. Maybe it has to re-register the codecs.

The other audio problem I had was with the Realtek audio driver. I was having volume fluctuations on playback and also audio dropouts on VLC and Zoom and MPC-HC. Uninstalling the Realtek audio driver then reinstalling it solved that. It may have to do with the order in which the driver and the players are installed.

Thanks. The order of Realtek vs Zoom Player installs must have gotten messed up with the mb changes. Now, after uninstalling and reinstalling ZP7 and VLC 1.0.1 (Realtek had already been reinstalled), I've got the following:
    - ZP7 is much louder with AC3
    - VLC is a fair amount louder with MPEG audio (MP3)
    - MPEG audio (MP3 not mentioned) and WMA2 are about the same

That's a big improvement because I prefer ZP, but what should I be looking at to even them up?
