    Hello all,

A friend has given me a 2dvd edition of Zhivago, I wanted to convert it into MKV to put into my media hdd, add french subtitles and everything is OK.

Now I want to remove the 3 minutes ouverture at the beggining but I can't do it

I have played with avidemux and i can cut precisely to the frame i want but when i hit save and select MKV in the dropdown list i get an error message about the encoding.

So my question is why the hell does it want to reencode into MKV knowing that the file is already and MKV and how do I cut an MKV file without reencoding it ? Should i remove all the subtitles streams ? should I also remove the audio stream but then how do I cut the audio stream also ?

    Thanks for the help

What exactly is the error message ?

Unless you cut on an I frame you will have to do at least some encoding to close the cut GOP.

Also, have you considered that your subtitles may end up 3 minutes off sync because you have cut 3 minutes from the start of the film ? Personally, I love having the overture and intermission in Lawrence of Arabia.

    Hello,

I didn't know about the I frame, i'll try to cut it on an I frame and see what happens (and also get the precise error message)

About the subtitles i can edit them with subtitle workshop which allows me to move ALL the subtitles by any time I want (and merge the subtitles from the 2nd disc and remove the entracte....)

I love to hate them so much that I would lmike to remove them, and also on grand prix which is my next "2 dvd in 1 mkv" project...

    Thanks for the help

Another option might be to use the file split function in MKVMergeGUI to split the file at the end of the overture, and just keep the second part.

yep but it's definitely not precise enough
I've tried that and I love avidemux thing where you can cut to the specific frame number you want (ouverture is 6300 frames long) and i didn't find this in mkvmerge...
