I tried the hack listed on the website, but did not get past step 3 as '02' was not displayed. Was anyone else successful with this hack and if so, how?
Thanks

The user didn't post which version was used. It's possible the hack works for players in one region, but not in another as they often have different firmware.

Also hardware changes since the hack was posted may break the hack. That happens a lot.

And I didn't notice at first, but this is a Samsung. All new Samsung models/unit seem to locked and cannot be "hacked".

You are right - it is region -specific. The hack suggested is for region 2 players. I have obtained the correct number sequence for Region 4 (76884) and it worked (so far). Also there seems to be no need to wait for 15secs before powering off. I paid about $14 to a UK-based website (DVD exploder) to obtain the details.

There are a couple of current Samsung models that apparently can be unlocked, but the majority are as Krispy Kritter says - locked at the factory with no way to unlock.

As I said, the hack worked for me, although only for multi-zone playback of DVDs, not BluRay
