I've tried installing the 1.3 Beta version on two different computers and the same error appears when I try to open the App. Here it is: -- C:\Program Files\Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode) \audacity.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

This message is on both computers

    Anyone else have this problem?

    Thanks

I have never had an issue installing Audacity before, but give this a try a see if it works for you.
    Go to :

    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_windows
Scroll down the page a bit to the Optional Downloads section and you will see this sentence:

"Windows 2000/XP/Vista: Audacity 1.3.8 zip file (7.5 MB) - If you want a download without help files, or cannot run the installer because of restricted permissions, download and unzip this or the file below instead"

Download the file referenced there. Once unzipped , you (should) have a working version of Audacity. This what I have been using for the last several versions of the program, and have not had any problems. Don't forget to get the Lame MP3 encoder if you want to use MP3 files.

Edit: Also once you have everything unzipped and configured etc, all you need to do is copy that folder to any other PC you may want to run it on.

The latest Audacity 1.3.8 beta is very buggy. It will work on my Laptop with XP, but won't work on my desktop with XP x64 with either the zip or installer used. I get a Runtime Error in XP x64. All previous versions work great and I'm currently running version 1.3.6 without any issues.

The only problem I had with installation was an inability to set the FFmpeg library location. This was installing over version 1.37 on an XP SP3 machine. Uninstalling completely and reinstalling clean solved it, I guess this is always a good idea with beta software.

That would probably be a good idea, especially if the OP is having problems w. a normal install. They are here:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/files/

GT Music, if your computer profile is showing what update levels you are currently running at, you may want to update XP and your systems drivers to their most current versions, and see if that helps.
