  1. One of my DVDs that comes in one of those stupid cases with the center clasp that you have to push on really hard to release the disc has cracks along the center ring. It's not cracked all the way through, just on the top clear layer (this is the very center, not where data is stamped). It looks like some little pieces could come up on the top layer. I tried to take a photo of it but it came out looking pretty indistinct.

    Will this effect playback? The middle ring seems to have two layers so the bottom ring is still intact.

    Or should I rip it to my harddrive and burn a backup just in case?

    Eventually it will affect playback as the cracks get worse. I would make a backup copy now.
