I'm running Windows 7 x64 in one of my test PC and somehow VirDub x64 isn't loading all the plugins e.g. mp4/flv/mpeg2/wmv/...etc which are in plugins32 folder, am I missing something or something needs to be changed cause it's x64?
I've great success with running VirDub x86 in my main PC with XP Pro SP3 x86, all plugins are also in plugins32 folder.
Thanks in advance for your help.
p/s I got my downloads from the links below:
https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Virtualdub
More information and other downloads:
Download Virtualdub 64 bit version here
Download MPG,WMV,FLV,MOV,MP4 Virtualdub plugin pack here, import all those formats directly in Virtualdub. Extract the folder plugins32 to the Virtualdub folder.

It would probably be easier to just run the 32bit Virtualdub in Windows 7. I can only assume that it's the same as running 32bit Virtualdub in Windows XP 64bit. You'll need to install the 32bit codecs in the syswow64 folder.
Installing the 32bit version on Windows 64
Extract all the files to a folder
Open up a command prompt (start->run: cmd)
Change directories to sysWOW64 ("cd C:\windows\syswow64")
Type the following (replace example_path with the actual path to the extracted files), then hit enter:
rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\example_path\AC3ACM.inf
This method can also be used for installing other 32bit codecs such as Huffyuv that install via a .inf file. -
Not to necro-bump a thread, but,
i think this one got little attention, and touches on a important method. Is this really how users were installing vdub32 on win64? what win7_x64? ok. I have not had to do that, i use an older ffdshow package ffdshow_rev3631_20101115_clsid_x64 with vdub 64, and ffdshow_rev3631_20101115_clsid with virtualdub32, and have no problems except with filtering.
I cant see how i would need to put things in sysWOW64 for any 32bit installation to work, because i can always get my 32bit installation to work as mentioned above, however on the 64bit installation i wonder how sysWOW64 would apply to get the 32bit plugins to work for 64bitvdub. -
DarrelS's instructions are how 32 bit codecs are installed under 64 bit Windows when the normal installation doesn't work. For example, huffyuv's normal installation method (right click on huffyuv.inf and select Install) doesn't work properly on 64 bit Windows. So you have to copy the file and register it yourself. This is for system dlls, not VirtualDub plugins.
64 bit VirtualDub plugins can simply be copied to VirtualDub64's plugins folder, as you indicated.Last edited by jagabo; 19th Oct 2016 at 17:26.

ahh thanks for clarifying that, it really helps, i wasn't sure about that part. Its nice to get this recap, ages later, so that this post is still valid. Yeah, i have those problems with ACM 64bit codec all the time.
On another point, more related to the OP, in my particular issue is where to put 32bit plugins, to test them in the 64bit installation. I was wondering if i make a new 32bit plugin dir, or try them in the 64bit plugin dir. I would understand if that goes unanswered, but answering might make this a more complete thread, IMO, since that's what led me to this page initially. -
Interesting, sounds pretty cut and dried. Man, i had everything else solved in working order for years, to use 64bit for all my needs, until i finally need post process for VHS< hence some good filters. That sucks, im pretty reluctant to steer from 64bit. Oh well, ill look for another topic for that.
