I have been using registry cleaners for several years and only had one serious problem. I got hold of the "virtumonde" trojan which took me two days to get rid of.
Lately there have been arguments about cleaners vs backups. On this forum one person said that he never uses cleaners but uses Symantec Ghost for daily backups.
This brings me to my questions:
1. Are daily backups better than cleaners?
2. Which is better-Symantec Ghost or Acronis.

1.
You should backup regularly ( daily is a bit much for me but hey to each his own ).
Of course you should also have a good set of anti-virus and anti-malware products. (and yes I do daily scans with these - at night while I sleep)
As far as reg cleaners go I think that a good monthly cleaning with ccleaner helps my pc's responsiveness tremendously.

See this thread for a good discussion of backup software.

I do both: cleaning and backup.
Cleaning works with Glary Utilities and keeps the PC in good shape.
The backup helps to restore the data if PC is messed up. -
They both do different things and it isn't really an either or situation. I use Ghost 2003, Drive Snapshot and, more recently, Macrium Reflect for backing up partitions and CCleaner for cleaning temp files etc. and the registry. So far, so good!

Regcure = garbage ... blatant ripoff
1: You should use advanced system care, either free version or the pro.
Add ccleaner to list.
2: Depending on os ... vista's utility for perfoming backups is utterly useless ... use Comodo BackUp.
3: As for system imaging ... Macrium Reflect
So there you have it ... tweaked system ... dependable backups in many modes (full / incremental / version) ... and master system image incase it dose hit the fan ... and at no cost for home users. -
Oh yes, turn off Windows Automatic Update or set it to notify you when updates are available, so you can backup your C: partition before installing things like IE7 or IE8 etc. in case they break your system.
