    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to to convert couple of files to 3gp. I have a sample 3gp but I'm unable to match it's settings. According to Gspot codec for video is mp4v, audio AMR narrowband, container says 3gp4: 3GPP Media (.3GP) Release 4, Recommended Display Size: 176 x 144. File lenght is 1.59sec. and it's 1.26MB big. Everything I've tried I always get bigger file. Can someone please suggest how to match these settings? Thx a lot

With a source of identical length (1.59 sec), try matching the resolution (display size) and the bitrate. You should end up with similar results. For testing, you may also want to eliminate the audio.

    Hi,

thanks, but I've already tried that. When I convert to 3gp video codec is not mp4v, I've tried matching resolution and bitrate. Bitrate is 88 according to Gspot. Original file has audio. Any other suggestion?

What software are you using to perform the conversion?

Without knowing that, one can offer only generalities, so here are some:

    1) If you have the option of multiple-pass encoding, then use it. By performing the conversion in more than one pass, the encoder can best allocate the available bits to best effect (more bits for busy scenes, fewer bits for less dynamic frames).

    2) If the source file is noisy, perform some filtering. Even a small amount of filtering can have a significant effect on bitrate/quality.

    3) Make sure that, in your comparisons, you are looking at clips with the same resolution, framerate and bitrate.
