    Hi everyone.

I would appreciate if anyone could help me with uploading my videos from my camcorder to my laptop. I have a Sony Handycam Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar. I recorded a few videos and when I attempted to upload them onto my laptop, the message that popped up said that the files could not be read. I am at a loss as to what I should do. I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

    Thanks in advance.

You would need to post the camcorders model number for anyone to offer much help. There appear to be half a dozen that meet the 'Sony Handycam Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar' specification. What type of camcorder? DV? Mini-DVD? H.264?

If it's DV, how are you transferring it? Most times that's done with a I-Link (FireWire/1394A) cable. Or sometimes a USB 2.0 cable, though that may be a lower quality transfer.

If it's DV, that should playback in Windows Movie Maker or WMP. Or try VLC Media Player.

    And welcome to our forums.

    Thank you redwudz =)

I have a DCR-DVD108. And I attempted to transfer the videos by both a USB 2.0 cable and by putting the DVD in my DVD slot in my laptop and playing it back. The computer itself attempted to open the videos with iTunes but it did not work. I then tried to open with both Windows Movie Maker and Sony Movie Maker but to no avail. I really don't know what to do and I really need to upload them for they are my brothers graduation videos.

    Thanks.

  4. what are you going to do with them after getting them on the computer? if you just plan to play them, you might put the dvd in the drive, download the free version of vob2mpg and use it to create an .mpg video file of the dvd's vobs.

the .mpg should play on any computer with a software dvd player, as it is dvd spec mpeg-2. if you don't have one download vlc, mpc, or any other in the tools section.

[edit] you did finalize the disc before removing from the cam, right? if not do so now, and the computer should be able to read it.

Yes. I just want to upload them to my laptop and view them and I did finalize the DVD before removing it from the camera. I downloaded the free version of vob2mpg and created .mpg video files of the DVD's and they now work perfectly!! Thank you SO much to both of you. I really appreciate it!!

    =)
