So I bought a new computer a couple of weeks ago and bought a hannspree monitor with hdmi included in the monitor, from best buy. I also have a Xbox 360, so I bought an hdmi cord and I play through my monitor. Now is there any way to capture the screen when I play xbox. I have to switch between my hdmi and vga depending if I want to play my xbox or use my computer. If anyone has any solutions or ideas please post.

well another alternative is the hauppauge hd pvr. It has component input with fiber optic input for 5.1 recording as well. THe best thing is it has component passthrough to allow viewing on your tv at the same time - you have a seperate set of cables going to the component input on the tv naturally. Its pricey though starting at 225.00 USD depending on what retailer you go to (got mine new for 225.00 at tigerdirect).

Edit - fyi - this is only if you want it for high def recording. There may be cheaper standard def capture devices with passthrough options. I don't know about any of those for regular resolution but I'm sure there are some.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Can this go in through a monitor instead of a tv?

ONly if it has component inputs. It does not have standard composite output cables nor vga outputs.

edit - of course you can watch it on the computer as it is captured. However it may not be lag free enough for practical gaming. That would be what the component passthrough is for.
