I cannot open the tray on my Philips DVD825. I was experiencing an audio issue with an SVCD. Notes with the disc mentioned that if a player was set to PAL instead of NTSC could cause audio desync. I remembered this may have been set to PAL from messing around when I first got the player. According to the manual, in order to change this, with the unit powered OFF, hold the 'open' and 'forward' buttons and turn on the unit. It will then show the setting and give you a 3 second opportunity to change it. Sure enough it was set to PAL. I changed it to NTSC. Now the tray will not open.
The owners manual didn't have any suggestions. Philips web site was of no use. I tried a search here and couldn't find anything close.
If anybody knows of a reset or any way I can get this working again, I will be in debted to you for life! I want my DVD!!!
Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure if this will help but when I first got my DVD(apex ad660) I tried a XVCD it refused to play and give it back to me.I tried the eject on the remote and the eject on the player,no help. I had to turn the power off and while is was turning back on I hit eject and it finally worked. It was like a hard reboot. And if you cant even get to the setting after this, you may have some real problems. You cant force the disc out,or you'll kill the machine.Try to power it down and upon power up immediately try to hit eject, that may make it spit it out like it did mine.

I had the exact same issue occur on my 825, and here's how I fixed it: (PLEASE NOTE: THIS WILL RESET YOUR 825 TO REGION CODE 1, NTSC FORMAT).
1. Remove any disc from player (hopefully there is no disc stuck inside!)and shut it off with the power switch.
2. Turn back on, and with remote control, press PLAY and then 1 5 9
3. Press these numbers on the remote: 005 000 128 156
4. Press PLAY again on the remote.
5. Turn player off, then on again. All should be well.
I cannot guarantee this fix 100%, but it worked for me for the same problem as you mentioned. However, as with all things, use at your own risk.
