Hi All,
I'm authoring a project to DVD and like everyone else wants to use all available space as wisely as possible.
I've looked at the bitrate calculators in the tools section, but they don't cater for the situation I'm in. Part of the "assets/extras" that I have is an already encoded slideshow over which I have little control, and which is also multiplexed into the DVD structure as an additional titleset.
So in order to know how much space the extras - including the slideshow - will require, I need to know what the multiplexed size of the slideshow will be. (And from there it's but one extra step to put together my own DVD bitrate calculator).
At https://forum.videohelp.com/topic278684.html borax gave some information on DVD multiplexing overhead. Is that still the extent of our knowledge on this topic, or is there more information available?
Now, to complicate things further, both the slideshow and my movie have multiple SST subtitle streams. Does anybody have some guidance on calculating average subtitle bitrate + multiplexing overhead, and/or eventual size? I know these vary according to content and project, but perhaps one can make some fairly accurate extrapolations from the 4-colour compressed BMPs' total size, or maybe from the original SSA text even?
Many thanks in advance,
Francois

No. But if you convert the subtitle into sup (which is already the same format as on the final DVD), you can add the size of the sup files (maybe with an additional 10% for padding) to my 'usual' formula.GUI for dvdauthor:

Yes. And there should be no additional overhead (or only minimal due to the 2k packeting of VOB units). So you can add the size of the sup files to the 'Total size' (using the above mentioned formula).GUI for dvdauthor:
