Is this video.ts file a DVD image file? If so, I'm thinking you can burn this in Toast using the DVD option, but I'm just guessing. I'm still thinking about whether I should buy an external Firewire DVD-R/RW or wait for that after I get the g4 iMac.

AntnyMD, you are correct, use Toast to burn Video_ts directories. BTW, the G4 imac with Superdrive is not a pain in the butt but the opposite. No need to get an external.

  6. toast seems to only be able to burn data dvd's and not an active video dvd, if i burn the ts files with toast will my dvd be playable in a standalone dvd player?

Toast burns DVD (video) discs playable in standalone players. Just Select DVD under format, click "new DVD", drag the Video_TS folder to the window. You may also want to make an empty "Audio_TS" folder and drag it as well, just to make it compatible with older standalone players.
This is all assuming you are using Toast v.5. I'm not sure if v.4 burns DVDs.
