    Quick questions

I've recorded some workshops i put on and authored them simply through iMovie and iDVD
I export the iDVD file to desktop as a VIDEO_TS
i want to add a folder on this disc which contains powerpoints and lecture notes for participants to access when they put the dvd into their computer

on my mac what i did was open Toast, choose DVD-UDF and put the video_ts folder into there and added a folder called Presentation Notes and burned it

Works like a charm on a mac.

On a pc however, you cant see the Presentation Notes folder at all even when you explore the disc or say show hidden files under view options

Any idea on how i can get this to be a watchable dvd when you drop it into a dvd player but also be able to access the data in that folder if you pop it into a computer?

Everything you did should have made it work properly on the PC. Is the PC running Vista? Perhaps there's another security layer you have to bypass (as is usually the case with Vista)?

its noticed both on Vista and XP machines.

If i put stuff into a Jacket_TS folder do you think that will show up?

  4. Did you name the notes folder in all capitals and no spaces ? Try EXTRAS_TS

I don't have any problems adding data folders with any name to a video DVD on PC.
I use ImgBurn and format as UDF+ISO9660
Perhaps the ISO9660 (as for data disks) helps.

Anyway I suspect that Windows is being nanny-like and hiding this from you after deciding that it's a video DVD.
Can't say how to fix this though, as my disks work fine in players or PCs without tweaking.

JACKET_TS can only contain 3 still images (mpeg2 codec, with 3 different sizes: little-medium-big)
These pictures are displayed if you click on the "stop" button of your remote control, or if your DVDPlayer has some "chapters index" features
(JACKET_TS is defined in the norm, but only some recents players implemenet it)

PS: I didn't understand if your aim was to add some stuff to your DVD or to access to this stuff from DVD menus (DVDStudioPro does it)
if your aim is only to add some stuff, you can drop them everywhere in the disk execpt in the VIDEO/AUDIO/JACKET_TS (and group them in a folder or not)
Try LiquidCD, select a VIDEO_TS and use the checkbox to add some "data files" (an advice: avoid exotic characters in files name)

    bye

Nope, aim was to have power point files in a folder for people to access when they pop the dvd into their computer and explore the disc contents.

Right now the data folder only seems to appear when you pop the disc in a mac.

Ill try renaming it using all caps etc and see what happens.

Again: Shot with Sony HDD camera, imported into iMovie, authored with iDVD and saved to desktop as VIDEO_TS
Burned using Toast, under DVD ROM UDF and manually added "Presentation Notes" folder which has power point and .pdf file in it.

Will try EXTRAS_TS and see what happens

    Thanks!

  10. Aha ! Try Burn. Go to the Data tab, at the drop down menu on the right select Advanced... and then you can check UDF and ISO9660 as AlanHK suggested. Should be a winner.

I just made an iDVD disk image using iDVD's "Edit DVD-ROM Contents..." menu item. I created a new folder named "STUFF" and dropped a file into that new folder. I then converted it over to a bin/cue using Toast (so I wouldn't have to actually waste a DVD testing this), and mounted that image file in XP running in Parallels. I saw everything in Windows Explorer. I've attached the picture to this post.

Note that my process only used Toast to convert the OSX disk image to something Windows could understand; and that was only so I could test in Parallels. Otherwise, iDVD will do it all.

Fantastic, reburning the ones i already exported with this program. Will do the iDVD option for all future "data videos"

I knew there had to be a way

I follow you all the way up to mounting it on Parallels. Id like to confirm this works before burning discs, so what did you use to mount it on the Windows end.

I tried mounting the disc on the mac end and opening parallels, however my XP machine doesn't seem to see the disc.

Don't mount it on the Mac side. In Parallels' "Devices" menu > CD-ROM > Mount (connect?) disc image and select the bin or cue file (don't remember which one was selectable). Make sure you disconnect it (from the same menu) when you're finished with it or Parallels will keep asking for it in future sessions.
