  1. Hello All,

I have a lot of video clips that are DivX 5 format. I am using Nero to burn the clips to DVD but the video stutters, skips and stops when I play the clips in my DVD player. When I play the same clip either from the file on my HD or from the DVD, the clips run just fine. I contacted Nero and they gave the following fixes:

    1. Try a lower write speed - which I did but got the same result
    2. Change the DVD Media - I am using Memorex DVD-R right now but I have not tried a different brand
    3. Update the firmware of my burner - I have not tried this either. My burner is a LiteOne LH-20A1L. The tech support at LiteOn is not the greatest but I will probably try this. If anyone happens to know where I can download the latest firmware, I would appreciate it. Their site is not user friendly.
    4. Change quality settings - Have not tried this yet

So other than trying the things that Nero suggest above, I found a software program called ConvertXtoDVD located here:

    http://www.vso-software.fr/shop.php?ap=avangate&aid=675&product=cx3&from=buyappcx3

The software is $50 and it worked great. I was able to convert the DivX 5 to a DVD format that my DVD player was able to play flawlessly. The software also burns the clip to DVD. So now my question. I do not want to begrudge the company that makes ConvertXtoDVD but $50 is a bit steep. Does anyone have a better and less expensive, software option?

    Thanks

Cut Nero out of the equation.

Try AvstoDVD, DVD Flick or FAVC. All are free and will do a good job. If you want to pay, get ConvertXtoDVD.

Burn the results to quality media (Verbatim, TY) using Imgburn.

Be aware that you may have PAL source material. if you convert it to a PAL DVD you may not be able to play it. If you convert it to an NTSC DVD, you may still end up with jerkiness.

They sure do play it & a wonderful job of it too. Can read from a USB drive so you don't even have to put it on a disk.

  7. I am ready to be corrected but divx removes all the ntsc/pal crap and region problems?

Why anyone would spend time converting is beyond me.

Why? For one the ability to stop/resume playback at a later date along with chapters. For a series of shorter clips, a readily available menu with full file names.

Not really the new CX2D 3 is a very versatile app, and as you have found out works when others don't. For simple conversions there are many free apps (as was mentioned) that may suit your needs, but many times a bit of codec fiddling is involved. The new video resize options are also very nice.

Here's an earlier version screen shot:

Plus CX2D can handle almost all subtitle formats, not just .srt like many free apps.

Divx ultra can do this. But only on divx ultra certified players naturally...
