Help. I have a kodak z812is. When Kodak transfers the files from the camera with its software Kodak puts the files into Documents & settings/owner/Kodak etc. the movies files work here, but if I want to copy the movies file to My Pictures on an external drive where I save all picture and movies, the movie file will only play 1 sec. Most of the time I just use a file manager and move the files around. Why doesn't Kodak allow the files to be played on another drive? Kodak says there is no codec on the drive. But, If I make a cd using kodak software the file plays. Thanks for any help. I had a sony before and never had a problem got the kodak because of the zoom.
    thanks

  2. Hi

What player are you using? we really need to know more about the situation on your PC, but one of the best players to use is VLC, download VLC from the tools section to the left <===, it will play them no matter where your MOV files are.

Kodak told me I had to use quicktime to play the videos . I will try the VLC but what if I wanted to give the movies to some of my family. The movie files only play where kodak has organized my files if I move the movie it will only play 1 second
    thanks

  4. Hey

Don't worry about what Kodac told you, VLC plays a hole heap of different formats, just tell your family to download VLC too, you could even include a copy of VLC (portable) with your MOV files on the disks you give to your family
IMHO, you should save your self hard drive space & get rid of quicktime.

If they are quicktime files, then there is also Quicktime Alternative Player. It uses Media Player Classic and it's freeware.

And gerry19610, welcome to our forums.

There should be plenty of freeware programs that will do the same. You might try Any Video Converter. Or FAVC or DVD Flick or XviD4PSP or SUPER. They're all freeware. You can do a search in our 'Tools' section for more. I'm assuming the files are in .mov format, but you can verify that with MediaInfo. There are also guides for converting in our 'HOW TO' section. If you need a quicktime codec, install Qucktime Alternative and you should be good to go.
