  1. I'm trying to play some MKV videos on my laptop. I tried the K-Lite codec pack, I tried installing the codecs individually, I tried Media Player Classic, and VLC.

    The only program I could get to play the MKVs was VLC, and it did so with the color off. So for example, if there was a red flag....you'd see the red shading above the flag. The color was not on key.

  2. Try MPCHC. It has many more built in decoders than MPC. It also includes an MKV reader/splitter. Uninstall K-Lite.

    You might also have video overlay problems. Open the same video in two instances of VLC. Does one look good the other messed up?

    That's a codec / muxer problem.

    Did you tried ffdshow and reset all settings?
