I know nothing about these specific players. However, you should know that every DVD player that Samsung makes now anywhere in the world is region locked and no one has found a way to change the region on their players. If you care anything at all about having a region free DVD player, Samsung would be a horrible choice. And I am not at all suggesting that the LG can be made region free (I have no idea), but I can promise you that the Samsung CANNOT be made region free.

Those models are dvd burners. The LG GH22NS30 can be made region free & rip at faster speeds using MEDIA CODE SPEED EDIT since LG drives have their read speeds riplocked. From the looks at the Samsung drive some have reported the drive having a early death.

I'd buy the LG drive and patch it using MCSE. If you want a good drive buy a PIONEER 216 or 217 dvd burner. -
The Samsung SH-S223F is a great reader. I wouldn't call it the best burner in the world.
Just as with the LG drive you can use MCSE you can use C0deKing's Patch Utility for Samsung MTK Based DVD Writers for the Samsung SH-S223F drive.
- Increase 16x SL read speed to 18x
- Incrase DL read speed to 16x
- Remove video riplock
- Enhanced OPC
- Retain book type after eject[list:b36c1c8f01]
- Default book type DVD-ROM

I'm a fan of LG drives for burning but I wouldn't give up my Samsung SH-S223F for using as a reader. -

You want reviews on dvd burners then go to CDFreaks.com and check out all the different forums. I haven't bought a new dvd burner in about 6 months now. I love flashing them with hacked firmware. The PIONEER dvd burners are solid and they don't have their read speeds locked like LG does. Yuh, you can use MCSE to have the LG drives rip at faster speeds and so can PIONEER drives. The only exception is the PIONEER drives no longer have the read speeds locked. SAMSUNG drives are great too but some die premature deaths. C0deKinG loves creating his new toys for dvd burners. My last SAMSUNG drive was the S203B.
Just my 2 cents! -
