I tried Nyke76's hack (on the list under Sony DVP-NS700P) on my Region 1 Sony DVP-NS700P but when I entered the sequence 3,1,4,1,5,9 I got the message "This button is not usable now" for each number, and the word "CODE" never appeared in the display. Also I got the same message when entering a number using the alternative method (and the remote has a Program key but no P-mode key).
So I guess I'm out of luck but as a newbie I thought I would post my experience to see if anyone could offer any advice. All I want is to be able to view Region 2 DVD's from the UK on occasion.

No harm in asking, but the odds are quite high that no one will have a solution for you. It's getting more and more difficult everyday around the world to find any DVD player that can be made region free. Hacks that worked in the past no longer work. A few hacks only work on models sold outside of the USA and Canada. Sony DVD players have always been consumer unfriendly to varying degrees. Hollywood has convinced just about all the DVD player manufacturers to stop making players that can have the region changed on them and almost everybody has complied. Consumers need to revolt. You can start by sending email to Sony and telling them that you will NEVER buy another Sony product again because of this. The only thing that will make manufacturers listen is for consumers to do something like this.

Note that Hollywood is so stupid that they actually think that preventing consumers from changing the region on DVD players will stop piracy. In fact, it will cause it to increase. People in regions 2 and 4 in particular now have no reason to buy region 1 DVDs since their DVD players can't be made region free any more. What people will do is turn to the internet for ripped copies that lack region coding and Hollywood will get nothing from this.
