Hi everyone,
Kay, here's my problem. I've created 2 MP2 files from a DVD containing 2 Languages. Both are encoded in TMPGenc with the (Audio Only) PAL SVCD Template : Layer-2 48Khz 224Kpbs.
The Video track is also encoded using TMPGenc with the PAL SVCD template : MPEG-2 720x576 25fps CQ 65.
Both should be 100% PAL SVCD Compliant. When i Mux the 2 audio and the 1 video file as a Multi audio track SVCD file, TMPBenc give me some wierd error that the track might not work correct. If i try Muxing with I-Author. (I first have to rename the audio from .mp2 to .mpa and the video from .m2v to mpv) it gives me a warning that the maximum bitrate is exceeded... is this normal.
The Created MPG/MPS file can be played using PowerDVD, but no second audio track is found, can be played....
--
Hmm, seems Nero doesn't want to burn this file as well. It says the file is not SVCD compliant....
--
Any help/comment would be appreciated.
Greetz,

The problem is simple, your Audio is encoded at 48khz, you need to encode it at 44.1khz to make it compatible with either VCD or SVCD, that is why you are getting that error message.

Thanx for the fast reply,
Does this mean when i re-encode the audio to 44Khz and re-Mux the both it should work ???? Coz the strange thing is, the file can be played after muxing, but the second audio track can't be found (By powerDVD...).
So if i fix the 44Khz thingie and burn it as a SVCD it should work with the dual audio ??

720x576 isn't compliant SVCD, should be 480x576.
I-Author gave you a bit rate error because the max combined (video and audio before muxing) bitrate is 2620. If you set your video to 2376 and audio to 224, TMPG will still peak well above 2500, more than the allowable 2620.
Create your m2v and mp2 then mux with bbMPEG setting force mux rate to 0. Then you can use mpgXmps to convert the 2324 packeted mpg to a compliant I-Author mps.
Get mpgXmps here http://members.tripod.de/Gandalf_Grau/ -
Damn....
You're right ! How could i have missed this....
Well I guess i'll just have to re-do the whole thing in 480x576.
Thanx for the help guys.

DON'T RE-ENCODE
It might still play, it just won't be compliant.
I do everyone one of my SVCD @ 352x480 and 48khz audio. Total time from rip to burn is less than 4 hours -
Hi (Again),
I said re-do, not re-encode. I'm going to to the whole thing from start and CHECK the settings this time.....
What happend in this time-wasted-action, was the following. I needed/wanted to encode all the things seperate to be able to mux the 3 files (2x audio,1x Video) together. So i loaded the SVCD template that came with TMPGenc and then loaded the unlock template to be able to set the whole thing to audio or video only. Only side affect this had, was that when loading files, because the template is no longer locked, it changes the destination/encoding format to match the source. So mo 48Khz wav made my MP2 settings change from 44.1Khz to 48Khz and the video got changed from 480x576 to 720x576......
Well i guess i'll just have to wait another day now.
@disturbed1: what did you mean by it might still play but won't be compliant. Did you refer to the 720x576 resolution, because thats going to be changed as well when i re-do the whole thing.
Thanx again for all the help people.

Yep, 720x576 may still play on your standalone player. Shouldn't have a problem on computers at all.
It just doesn't follow the specs that Philips put out for SVCD.
My DVD player (Apex 500a) will play (S)VCD's @ 720x480, 480x480, 352x480, and 352x240. It plays 48KHZ audio in SVCD but not VCD. But it won't play higher bitrates. It won't even play a VCD with 1200 video and 224 audio correctly.
It doesn't even load the XVCD sample from the tools section because of the higher bit rate.
It's never a waste of time, just a learning experience -
Hmm,
Back again. If i choose the SVCD template, the "Rate Control Mode" is set to constant bitrate. Is this the best setting (Probably not...) ? And what would give the best quality mpegs ??

PowerDVD can't read the second audio track...you have to burn the SVCD and try on a DVD player (or maybe WinDVD I don't know)

That really depends on quite a few things. CBR tries to keep an average bit rate of that setting. If you enter 2000, it'll swing from ~1900 - 2100. More or less depending on your encoder.
VBR SHOULD use a varible bit allocation. Reserving more bits for highly detailed scenes, and using lower ones for less *busy* scenes.
Although it has been said that TMPG's VBR engine is flawed. It would depend on what version you'r using. 12a is the better one.
I've used TMPG many times. I purchased Cinemacraft's light version ($250), it only allows CBR, using a bit rate viewer, I've not seen any difference between CCE's CBR, and TMPG's VBR.
My opinnion is that CBR will yeild higher quality by maintaing the average bit rate across all scenes. Where as VBR lowers the bit rate in some scenes, and may lower overall quality. But VBR is said to shave 5-10% off the file size.
