    I want to join some clips but leave them in their original format

    Vegas doesn't support stream copy - it always recodes. If they are MPEG2 files you can do a simple join up and stream copy in Womble or VideRedo etc etc. If they are AVI files than VirtualDub will do it

    Not quite true. Vegas smart copies DV.

    AVI Demux is very flexible for joins for many formats.

    options/preferences/general - put a check mark in "enable no-recompress long gop rendering"

    vegas pro9 can reportedly even do some avchd 24mbps stream copy.
