    Hi,

Is there any software that allows you to save multiple selection (trims) at once? I have tried several programs but can't seem to find one that save those multiple trims at once I am new to the programs that I have tried.. but I can't seem to find it... Please help.

Here is what I want to do:
I have an hour long video editing of a show. I need to break that show into different sections so I can give the part that belongs to the performer to that performer. This is a really long show, so I have cut them into more than 25 pieces... Is there any way to save all those 25 pieces as individual video clip?

    Please help, thanks in advance!

What format is the input video?

If it's an avi chances are you can use Virtualdub or Virtualdubmod. Either one will let you select part of a clip by marking the start and end point and save it as is, in Directstream mode. It will only save the marked part of the video. You can delete that part from the timeline or just move to new in and out points for selection and repeat the process. If there is a section you don't want you can mark the in and out points of that portion and cut it out etc...

    It works very well.

There is a wmv plugin for Virtualdub but unfortunately it only allows you to input wmv.
    http://home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/WMV/index.html

This means you would have to re-encode the output to avi using another codec which would take longer. There may be wmv specific tools that would let you do what you want without re-encoding but I rarely work with wmv myself.

    Did you check here?:

btw) Virtualdub is one of the reasons I like to work with the avi format. Another thing I do if I want to save multiple separate clips in Virtualdub is to save each cut as a separate job to the Batch job queue then even if I am re-encoding very large portions in Full Processing mode I can start the Batch job and it processes each clip one after the other unattended.

Oh. I didn't check out that section. Checking it now and trying out some of the programs listed in there. Thank you very much.

An off topic question, isn't AVI generally bigger size than WMV? Please correct me if I am wrong. The reason I ask is because before I converted the video from VOB to WMV, there was also options for AVI output.

    Thanks a lot!

asfbin, movica, steeper can cut wmv without reencoding but they are not super simple to use.

avi and wmv can be same size and with similar quality, it all depends what avi video codec and video/audio bitrate you choose. avi with for example xvid/divx is about the same as wmv3 using same bitrate.

I checked Steeper and Cut Assistant. They are both Gui generally based on asfbin, at first glance Steeper seems less developed. Cut Assistant shows the timeline video however although you can select multiple cuts it looks like you can only save it to one file.

If you have the option to go from VOB to AVi using the divx/xvid or ffdshow mpeg4 codec then I would suggest that as a better option. As Baldrick said for similar specs the filesize should be similar for all of them. Personally I found that wmv videos are often softer as though some of the sharpness is removed to attain more compression and a smaller file. Given the available tools there is little advantage to using wmv if you don't have to.

You should also consider your audience when you choose a codec. Remember that vob files contain mpeg (likely mpeg2) video and you may have been able to use those without re-encoding at all and just extracted the mpeg2 and used an mpeg cutter but maybe no tool would meet your multiple out criteria like Virtualdub can through the Batch job process.

Also Virtualdub with the mpeg2 plugin installed can open mpeg2 streams in vob files and Virtualdub-Mpeg2 will even let you select the audio track when there are multiple ones. Using the mpeg2 plugin with Virtualdub (not Virtualdub-Mpeg2 ), and selecting "Ask for extended options after this dialogue" on file open you can select multiple vob files and treat them as one large virtual file. So you can use that method to directly import the content of one titleset into Virtualdub.

Why did wmv seem to you like the right way to go? Is that the format your friends need?

Virtual Dub is doing exactly what I want.. and it makes everything so much easier... but somehow it isn't working well with my file. I tried to save it to .avi in batch, the color came out distorted:/ There is blueish color over it and the size is really big for less than 30 second segment =|

I chose wmv because if I remember correctly long time ago I was told that wmv is smaller than avi.

Which video compression codec did you choose and at what settings? Also remember you will have to use Full processing mode.
