Hi I've got a Philips DVP5160/12 player and I want to know is it possible to add new divx codecs. Can someone explain the procedure if it's possible, thanks.

No, it isn't possible.
On set-top players, the decoding is generally done in hardware, so you'd most likely have to actually physically modify the hardware, which isn't really advisable.
What do you mean by 'add new divx codecs'? There's only really one codec (DivX/Xvid), unless you want to add support for DivX/Xvid features your player doesn't support, like DivX Ultra, or even the new h.264 support in DivX (which, again, is highly unlikely to be possible with a set-top player unless it supports it out-of-the-box).If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
By add new divx codecs i meant installing new versions of these codecs as you said h264. I've found that some video material that is divx is not supported on my player, I get audio but not video. Thanks for your help.

If the video doesn't play then it hasn't been encoded in a manner compatible with your player. The only solution is to re-encode it correctly. Try AVI Recomp
