What program would be good to use to cut out sections of a video I recorded. Right now I am trying "Avidemux."

I like how the video is when it is recorded the motion is smooth. When I edit it shows "lines" when an object is in motion.

How do I edit my windows media center (.dvr-ms) files so they would look like as if I just recorded them?

Note: I might of posted something like this not so long ago.

    Thank you for your replies.

What you are seeing is interlace lines. This is because the video you recorded is interlaced. These are meant to be there, but are not visible when viewing back on a television or player that deinterlaces on the fly. You want to keep the files interlaced in most cases, even if it does look ugly when editing.

This is most likely because the source is interlaced, what I usually do is to convert the video to AVI (XviD), (making sure I deinterlace it), then it's just a very simple task to edit it using Virtualdub.

Of course, that's no good if you want your video to remain in DVR-MS format.

Thank you for the replies. I understand a lot better now.

mh2360, what program do you use to covert them to avi (xvid)?

  5. I use Xvid4psp, which automatically takes care of any deinterlacing.

I set the profile to "AVI Hardware" and the video to "2 Pass Size", setting the size to about half the size of the DVR-MS file, since XviD encoding is far more efficient than MPEG2.

If your DVR-MS file has AC3 audio then you can set the audio in Xvid4psp to "copy" otherwise select AC3 192k or MP3.
