  1. My HF20 camcorder is starting to add media to my collection at a huge clip!

My PC is hooked up to 42" LCD so playing the files hasn't been much of a chore so far. I oc my Dual 1.86 to 3G and let the Nvida 8800 GT's GPU show the video via power director with no skipped frames. This is fine for me but for the rest of the family, well....

Since HD's are so cheap now I thought purchasing as needed and dumping all the video to them. I could setup the WD HD TV in the TV console with a SATA DOCK plugged into it. With the WD's remote my family could navigate the home videos ALOT easier than going thru my pc.

I'd probably buy 2 drives at a time to have one as a backup. I know hd's can die but darn, I've see a ton of clean unscratched DVDs die also after less than 3 years... When I feel bored I'd probably back up to dual layers also...

Anyone see a problem with this? I know everyone loves the popcorn networking but actually having a stand alone unit not relying on a computer would be a plus for me.

  2. Sharkoon? Esata? usb only problem is speed of transferring large files, multi-GB. It may only be a few minutes each time but it adds up. Esata is so much faster and can be used exactly as an internal drive.
