Hi, 1st post, so go easy,

Just bought VOB2MPGPRO as I'm pretty sure it's exactly what I need to archive our DVDs to a media-player (TVIX)

The only issue I have so far is that a few DVDs (my kids) have a whole bunch of seperate titles, rather than one or 2 titles with a whole bunch of chapters. This means that I end up with a whole heap of mpg files, when what I'm really after is just one mpg file that'll play all the way through. I could stick them in Photoshop Elements and re-create a single file, but that would result in a loss of quality - something I'm keen to avoid.

Many of the kids DVDs have a single large title that converts nicely, but these problem DVDs are just that, a problem.

It'd really help if there's a solution out there - our youngest is somewhat disabled, and enjoys watching these DVDs - I'm sticking the collection onto the Tvix though, as he tends to chew the DVDs if he gets hold of them - the TVIX is proving a great hit!

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

    Phil

  2. Videoredo, use the join function as long as all the video files are the same resolution and audio type.

Many thanks, but $50 is a bit much for the functionalitity I need, (I appreciate it does a lot more than simply joining mpgs - but I don't need all the extra stuff.) I've found a couple of freeware solutions, so I'll give those a try.

    Cheers,

    Phil

    Hmmm,

OK, so after trying a couple of freeware solutions I come up against the same problem I had when joining VOB files, the timing is all skewiff.

i.e. The length of the complete MPG shows as just over 10 minutes, where it should be just over an hour long. This means that both WMP and the TVIX FF and REW features don't work properly.

Don't suppose ChrissyBoy feels like adding another switch to force all output into one file? 8)

(Yes I know it's cheeky, but "Shy Bairns Get Nowt!" )

Perhaps the VOBSET mode will work on those DVDs? (Assuming the numerous Titles are in the same TitleSet)

Can't get the VobSet mode to work at all - it just doesn't see the Vob files (which are there!) - so can't test the theory at the mo'

(I have checked with several different DVDs and directories holding DVDs and VobSet mode doesn't see any of them!)

Nothing to see.... Just hit go and it will process a single mpg per TitleSet.....

Have just tried it, and unfortunately I get 13 different MPGs, 6 of which are the individual titles.

I'll keep looking for something that can join them properly.

    Thanks,

    Phil

Ok. What you can do it the following:

Copy the original DVD VIDEO_TS folder (so that you have a copy to go back to).

In VOBSET mode what happens is that files from the same Titleset get merged. But this is by file name only. So if you have:

    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB

you will get one mpeg containing those files merged.

So in your case if you have:

    TitleSet 1:
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB

    and

    TitleSet 2:
    VTS_02_1.VOB
    VTS_02_2.VOB
    VTS_02_3.VOB

and you want a single mpeg from merging TitleSet 1 & 2, rename TitleSet 2 files so that you have:
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB
    VTS_01_5.VOB
    VTS_01_6.VOB

Do this to match up what you want. Use something like MPC to view individual .vobs files to aid you. Once you have it renamed appropriately. Run Vob2mpg again in VOBset mode.

If that all makes no sense – post a file listing of the DVD and we can go through it together.

I'll let you know how i get on.

    Many Thanks,
