We are using winxp. Malwarebytes(MB) started hanging up during bootup. We uninstalled MB then bootup does fine.
We downloaded a fresh copy of MB installed it and it also hangs during bootup. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening. If we can't get this resolved is there other software comparable to MB?

How far does windows get when it hangs? Exactly what happens? We are going to need more info to try and help.
Have you tried booting into safemode using f8? If you can get into safemode then try running an antivirus and malware scan. You may have a virus/malware causing problems.

As far as an alternative to Malwarebytes goes SuperAntiSpyware is very good. However I have both installed and use them both. You still need to get this figured out though as something is wrong that shouldn't be.

  3. You can also use Hijackthis, but you need to be very careful with that program. If you don't know what you are doing, you can seriously mess things up.

When in doubt, post the log here and I will analyze it for you.
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

I'm curious what antivirus software you have? I was just looking at the malwarebytes forums and apparently there is a conflict with trend micro that should be fixed soon.

    See This Post

If you are running trend micro then this should solve your problem

To fix the issue we added all the program files in malware bytes folder to the trend micro exceptions list.

Sorry to take so long guys. This problem was my neighbors and he was not available last night so I got with him tonight. He has uninstalled MB and installed SuperAntiSpyware and is very happy with it. So I guess this wraps up this thread. So until next time thank you all.

  6. Call me skeptical if you like, but... I'd make very certain you've thoroughly scanned that comp and for good measure you should post a HiJackThis log. Some badware can stuff up anti-malware programs in various ways.

This may just be a simple conflict between programs but it needs to be found out. At the lease he needs to do a full antivirus and malware/adware/spyware scan.

Also couldn't hurt to download ccleaner and run it's registry cleaner (making backups before deleting anything in the reg).

We went to the MB forum and found out that other people are having the same problem. The MB people are aware of thexe startup problems and have promised a forthcoming fix.

Okay good enough. Just wanted to make sure that your neighbor investigated the problem and didn't just install superantispyware as a fix.
