Hi, I'm kinda new here and if this isn't the place to ask for help, I'm deeply sorry. I'm kinda at my wits end here with this camera. There may be other topics about this stuff, I don't know, but I've read so much that hasn't helped me yet and it's really getting to me here. I've been trying to convert the .mts files from the camera to dvd with no luck at all. I've used ConvertXtoDVD and have had a bit of success, but when some of the videos look and play just fine, one or two on the disc look horrible and are pixelated and play very badly. I've tried other programs as well, and most of them are said to actually be able to do DO THIS but they give me errors. My father expects me to get this right and he's not helping me at all and just angering me further.. I've finally come here to ask for help so... Please... If anyone could PLEASE help me, I sure would appreciate it.

  2. Have you tried the software that comes with the camera (Picture Motion Browser)? It has a function to transfer to disc, click the watch video link here:

    http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&stor...52921665291476

This camera records to AVC HD/H264 format (sort of MP4) in HiDef mode and MPG2 (like DVD) format in Standard Def mode. If your purpose is going to be burning your movies to DVD everytime, you should consider setting it to SD mode. If you like 16:9 widescreen, that can still be used in SD mode. That may not help you rigth now if your video was recorded in HD. That's where the Sony software can help, once you've converted the videos to DVD you'll be able to edit them like you normally do DVD.

You can also try avc2avi if you already have software that can handle MP4 editing like Nero Vision Express.

From what I have tried with the software that the video camera came with, it only burns the files to the dvd to be played in a bluray player or ps3, not to be played in a dvd player. I'll try the avc2avi program when I get a chance in a few minutes. Thanks for the reply, was starting to think I wouldn't be getting one lol.

  4. welcome to the forums

convertx is a decent avi to dvd converter, but not a replacement for editor/encoder/authoring tools. for your avchd cam you need something like sony's vegas movie studio 9.0b i think they still have a free trial so you could see if it works for you.

it's listed in the tools section on the right side of the page if the movie studio link highlight doesn't take you to it.

Is Sony Vegas 9b better than Vegas 8? I've tried Vegas 8 with the files and it is kinda horrible in my opinion, or perhaps it could be just me.

I just tried out avc2avi and I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly, but it seems to make the video not play that well at all.. I can play the original .mts file fine but after I demux it to .264 then mux it through avc2avi it seems as if the video isn't playing well.

was it vegas pro 8? that's the pro version that vegas movie studio is based on. it's not a one click wonder and takes time to learn. read about movie studio here - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudio

another choice for you might be to try adobe premiere elements.

Thanks for the help. I'm trying out the few things you have suggested right now and we'll see if it works in a few hours! I had to go lie down because everything was giving me a headache lol
