Hi all
I have some videos I am trying to play on my Linksys media center extender (DMA 2100).
Wouldn't work at first, but did play fine after I changed the Fourcc tag to mp41....but now doesn't play in VLC on the PC.
This mess regarding video codecs is very wearing. Different boxes can play the file, but only if I change the flag to pretend the file type is different!! That's retarded.
I do also have a PS3, Zune and XP boxes (not forgetting the WII, but that's another story). Also, any solution to getting these DivX files to play on all of my boxes?
A final question is....what video codec should I choose for compiling other DVDs I have that is most likely to play on the widest range of software/hardware. Ideally, I do not want to install custom packages, I would like to use the basic Vista Media Center, and my Media Center Extender. I do use VLC as that gives me a wide range of compatibiliy.
I use Handbrake to convert DVDs (the Div files were not complied using this package). I can't tell the difference between the H264, mp4 and avi files other than the extensions.
PS This text entry box has a problem, it self scrolsls to the top of the box without me asking so i can't now see what I'm typing...I'm using 800x600 screen on a netbook.
Thanks
