  1. General topic for people using BD Rebuilder. List your cpu and load.

I'm using an Intel Pentium D 3.0 dual core with 4 gb of ram. Backing up to BD25 and cpu load is 100 percent. Takes anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to complete.

    I used to take 40+ hrs w/ a AMD X2 6000+ reencoding to BD-9

I have upgraded to a Phenom II X4 940 OC'd to 3.8 Ghz w/ 8GB of ram and have got my times under 4hrs for BD-9

I just upgraded from a 6x LG BD/HD-DVD ROM to a 8x Pioneer BD-RW and am going to do my first reencode to BD-25, will report results

I believe the cpu load will always be 100% on any cpu (on the 2nd pass)

  5. 2 x Quad Intel Xeon E5420's (8 cores total), all at 100% during encoding.

Average re-encode time from BD50 down to BD9 on Highest quality setting = 3 hours.

    - Using DaemonTools with mounted ISO
    - BD Rebuilder v0.20.09 (might be faster with latest 0.21.01, but I don't know)

  6. Ocgw,

What MB are you using? I think I'm going to get the Phenom II x4 955 cpu, but I've heard comments that some of the AM3 boards are not very good at OC'ing.

    Thanks,

I have a 3.0Ghz Woldale ( 2 cores ) with 4GB ram, takes me 12-18 hours. I guess I need to upgrade. I usually run this program overnight.

  8. That's not all that bad. Are you backing up to BD5, BD9 or BD25? Normally takes me about 24-36 hrs to back up to BD25 with my pentium D 3.0ghz (Presler) dual core.

  9. Example, Paul Blart Mall Cop took me 27.5 hours to reencode to BD25 at High Quality in Movie Only mode. Not the best of movies but just an example. :P

I run my Phenom II 920 at 3.3Ghz on a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H MB. It has the same performance as my Intel PC with a Q9300 OC'd to 3.3Ghz, but at a lower cost. I don't use BDRB that much, but processing a BD to to DVD-9 takes about six hours total using RipBot for a MKV conversion. For AMD processors, I've had much better success with Gigabyte MBs. I'm using a Micro-ATX MB here as it's a HTPC and the case is small. The full ATX MBs have a lot more OC options.

I would hope your CPU is running close to 100% on all cores for that type of encode or you likely have a problem.

Yeah, I was a little quick to assume that quad cores would not be fully used.

You can change the CPU settings if you needed to multitask, and reduce the CPU usage percent, but it would slow your encoding. Not all codecs can use all cores, but when they do, it usually speeds up the encode considerably. Divx does well using a quad core and so does H.264. I've had mixed results with Xvid, but probably my version or the settings. MPEG, not so good. Those are just my observations, not necessarily fact.

I am using the GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM+ 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

940's get 3.8Ghz on air on average, you should get around 4.0Ghz w/ a 955

BD Rebuilder has a setting called "idle process" it will use all your cores 100% but you can still multi-task like it isn't even running

for example: I was using BD Rebuilder to convert a BD movie file to BD-9 while @ the same time ripping a BD from the disc to HDD, then my mom showed up and asked me to copy a DVD for her, I started showing her a blu ray from the HDD, when the movie was done ripping I burned her a DVD in the corner of the screen w/ nero while we were watching the blu ray, and I had never stopped encoding

multi-tasking w/ heavy weight apps lol, not office fluff

I'm usually backing up BD25. Sometimes I'll do a BD9, but I've never done a BD5. I will say this software is shockingly good at BD9. The average Joe probably wouldn't be able to tell the quality difference between a BD9 copy and a bought Blu Ray without close scrutiny.

Yes that is safe at 50c but perhaps you could reseat your cpu and heatsink fan to achieve cooler temps. Or buy a aftermarket heatsink fan if you're using the crappy Intel stock heatsink fan. According to the Intel specs. the temp you have is safe.

I do encoding but with DVD REBUILDER PRO using my Q9550 that's overclocked to 3.60ghz but my temps don't go over 40c. But I use a aftermarket heatsink fan that uses a push/pull configuration.

In total agreement w/ budz, but if you run this experiment you can drop your temps dramatically, sounds like you are not overclocking, so you may be feeding your cpu a lot more v that it needs to run stable, try this, drop your cpuv 1 notch @ a time, & test it out for a while for stabilty, if you drop your cpuv .2v I bet your temps will drop 5-7c, maybe even 10c

  22. Ok, finally updated my system. Thanks to OCGW and Redwudz mainly, but also to everyone else here on the boards.
