I have DVD Ripper Platinum; I've also downloaded several free video conversion programs (WM Converter, AVI Converter, Handbrake, DVDX and IPodME). Each of the free programs seems to have some quirks.

Not surprisingly, Ripper Platinum is the most robust and works the best; but a two hour movie MPEG-4 file is about a 1 gb. I'd like to find something that works well but creates somewhat smaller files.

Can anyone suggest a free program that is robust and creates smaller files? For an ipod classic 60 gb I don't need the very highest quality.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Lower the video and audio bitrate to get smaller file size (in some programs it's the same as lower the video quality settings). If you can't do it in imtoo then you must use something else like handbrake.

Thanks. Funny you should mention handbrake. I'm trying to use it but it bombs out. Attached is the log.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
