I've been using TMPGenc and Nero Vision to encode videos I download off the net. some of them are trailers from apples site some our shows from Revision3.
I Installed latest apple quicktime pro software and then I installed for my main Codecs ffdshow rev2946_20090515 but I've noticed a strange problem now. Some .MOV files will not open in Tmpgenc or Nerovison for the life of me yet some will. it's like a roll of the dice if or if not they will open. I can't for the life of me figure out whats different about them. yet they play fine in Apple quicktime pro. Why would some quicktime movies open and convert perfectly in TMPGenc2.5 and yet others wouldn't open at all.
here is a trailer I have problems with, http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/whateverworks/ it open's fine in quicktime pro but if I try opening in directly in TMPG or any encoder it will not open.
Update: forgot to install the Haali Media Splitter now I can encode them all, if I change the file name from .mov to say .avi
