How to rip dual audio?

I want to rip video files with multiple audio tracks. I know that AutoGordianKnot can do dual audio, but I'm having some problem with it. I'm flexible about the output format.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks! Just tried it last night. Let me sum up my experiences so far.

Auto Gordian Knot: Did not detect the audio tracks on my DVD. I ran two other jobs, and both produced videos that were cropped at both the top and the bottom, so that only about the middle third was visible.

HandBrake: The video looked fine, but the audio started from a point about one minute into the movie. When I reached that stage, the video skipped about one minute, and then they were in sync, but the movie was about one minute short. And the m4v would not play in WMP. It just gave a hissing sound and no video, even though I have K-Lite installed.

FairUse Wizard: The winner so far. The only compliant I have is that the WMP played both audio tracks at the same time, but that I suppose is about par for WMP.

Was a bit uneasy after looking at the web site and the comments about uninstalled codec packs. I've finally managed to set my system up properly using K-lite.

It's always a toss up for me between FUW and Handbrake
Both have their advantages.

I just wish they would fix the 12 byte problem in Handbrake, as I think that has a problem with fast forwarding

let me guess, you opened the vob instead of the ifo?
ctrl+F9 = hidden menu. override cropping, theres

No, I opened the IFO. VTS_08_0.VOB is just a menu, while VTS_08_1.VOB to VTS_08_4.VOB are the movie.

I have not done anything to the cropping parameters in Ctrl-F9. As far as I can tell, the AR is the same at the beginning.

I just tried one of the special features on the same disc with the same settings, and that worked beautifully.

The only thing I can think of, is that it lists 5 PGCs in the IFO. One is the movie, and the other five are I think various menus. It could be that some of those confuses it.

Some more experiences.

I've converted a small special feature video from one of my DVDs using AGK, FUW and HB. On both I set Norwegian as the first language and English as the second. When I play the files under MPC or VLC, they come up with Norwegian as default, but I can switch to English. However, under WMP, the AVI produced by AGK plays English, the AVI produced by FUW plays both at the same time, and the M4V produced by HB plays Norwegian.

It is of course unfair to judge them by how WMP performs, and I'm also comparing AVI and M4V, but this is still a vote for HB. You go, Baldric!

5 PGCs can be a problem iirc due to limitations in DGIndex.
it would be better to rip the movie only instead of the whole disc, as you dont need the menus etc. anyway.

Running DVD43 (free) or AnyDVD (commercial) at the background rip your DVD to a single PGC . Use pgc.NET which is the easiest to use and does exactly this also creates the necessary IFO file. This should solveyour problem.

Otherwise there is a problem in your DVD rip. Run it through PgcEdit and FixVTS to fix all the issues and then input the main movie IFO in AGK. This should take care of your problem.

I get what you mean. I'm used to using CloneDVD when I want to back up something for burning copies, and CloneDVDmobile when I just want an AVI.

It could very well be that the problem is because the original DVD is a bit complex. Will try to rip a movie only VIDEO_TS and then run AGK, HB, FUW or avi.net on that. Not a real problem, because I have such "clean" folders already.

Some more progress.

AGK: I ran it from a ripped copy on my HD. This prevented the cropping. There must have been something on the DVD that confused it. Plays both tracks at the same time in WMP, though, but I can live with that. Plays OK in VLC, MPC and KMP.

HB: I spotted some failure messages in the log file. a52_synchinfo (whatever that is) failed on chapter 1. Will post on the HB forum. I ran it once on a HD copy, but it's not a clean, movie-only rip. It still has some funky PGCs that may trip it up. Will give it a clean rip tonight.

Let me try to give a summary of my tests of Auto Gordian Knot, HandBrake and FairUse Wizard.

In the past I have used CLoneDVDmobile, and it has never given me any trouble. If you don't have any special requirements I recommend it strongly.

However, if you have requirements like multiple audio tracks, you need to look elsewhere. I've run a test on the Norwegian version of DreamWork's Madagascar DVD using Auto Gordian Knot, HandBrake and FairUse Wizard. I may try other programs in the future, but here are the results so far.

I do not change any settings, but just choose defaults. The only change I do is to select Norwegian as the first track and English as the second, and then add English subtitles. I use AVI in AGK and FUW and M4V in HB.

The DVD contains a short 11 minute movie about the Penguins, so I first try to copy that, just to test that things are OK, and then I try the main movie. All three programs can do this. When I play the file in Windows Media Player, which doesn't seem to support dual audio, the AGK movie plays English, HB plays Norwegian and FUW plays both. But all three work fine in VLC, Media Player Classic and the KM Player.

I first try to rip straight from the DVD (after loading AnyDVD). FUW could do this. AGK cropped about 1/3 at the top and 1/3 at the bottom. HB gave me a52_syncinfo errors and when I start playing the file, the video starts at the beginning, but the audio is from about one minute into the movie. When the video gets to that part, it jumps about one minute, and suddenly video and audio are in sync. If I try to open it in WMP, I just get a hissing noise and no video.

I then ripped from a copy on the hard disk (made by CloneDVD). AGK now made a beautiful copy, while HB gave the same a52_syncinfo with the same problems in the file.

The copy I had on my hard disk included a lot of special features, but I then used PgcEdit to make a "clean" movie-only version with just one title. But HB still didn't get it right.

So my conclusion is that FUW can do it straight from the DVD, AGK is OK with a ripped copy, while I was simply not able to get a working copy with HB.

But all made good copies of the short movie, so you may try them yourself on your own DVDs.

I just installed avi.net and wanted to test it, but it doesn't seem to me to support multiple audio. I was only able to select one track.

Oh ho... I misunderstood. I thought your source has a multiple audio which your program can not handle properly- sorry for the goof up.

Anyway, I can suggest another way. First make out the a avi fo your desired movie with one of the tracks. Then rip out the other track and convert it to a desired format. Then mux the second track with the avi using AviMux or AviMuxGui

Found a solution that's so simple, it's stupid.

To Rip 3 Different Audio Tracks from a DVD:
- 2.0 Audio
- 5.1 Audio
- Director Commentary

1. Open DVD in Handbrake

2. Set Video Options as Preferred (I like FFmpeg @ 100% Quality)

3. To rip audio track 1 -- go to Audio Settings as so:
- Track 1 = <Audio Track 1>
- Track 2 = None
- Track 3 = None

4. To rip audio track 2 -- go to Audio Settings as so:
- Track 1 = <Audio Track 2>
- Track 2 = None
- Track 3 = None

5. To rip audio track 3 -- go to Audio Settings as so:
- Track 1 = <Audio Track 3>
- Track 2 = None
- Track 3 = None

6. Use MPEG2 Works 4 to strip each of the three files generated into:
- Video: m2v
- Audio: mp2
- Muxed: mpg

VOILA!
