I Have Nero 7 Ultra but Need Video Capture Device Recommendation

I have the 7 Ultra Edition and have only used to burn audio and data CDs. I never used it for anything else but my son had to do a school project using our Mini-DV camcorder. We attempted to use Nero but we didn't have a video capture device so we weren't able to transfer to my PC to load and edit with this software.

I have researched capture devices because I want to also transfer old family VHS tapes to PC to edit, etc. The thing is from what I have found so far they all come with their own software. I am looking for something that will work with Nero 7 without having to install another software.

Please recommend capture devices from VHS to PC that works with Nero 7 Ultra.

minidv cam tapes should be transferred to the computer over firewire(ieee1394/ilink). the program to use is winDV and it is free. click on it's name and download it.

if you don't have a firewire port it would be best to buy an add in card, they are fairly cheap. then if the cam does analog to digital passthrough you can use it to capture analog video like vhs tapes.

Thanks much for the reply. We were able to transfer via firewire and download and edit by Windows Movie Maker.

As for my VHS tapes I will have to go from my VHS player via capture device, connect to PC, and hopefully be able to use Nero. Do you know of any capture devices that will work with Nero or do you think I will have to purchase a capture card? Roxio makes a nice capture device but I am wondering if I have to use their software.
