In an earlier thread, I was advised to use Aften or FFMPEG to convert the audio in a DV-AVI file to AC3. I assumed that the Aften gui would accept the .avi file as an input, but it will only accept .wav files as an input. Do I need to demux the AVI first and then input the resulting .wav file into Aften? On the other hand, FFMPEG will accept the .avi file as an input, but when I add the .avi file as an input a "Floating point division by zero" message pops up. And although it nonetheless appears to convert the audio properly, I'm a bit concerned about the "floating point" message; is it potentially introducing a problem?

Might be VBR MP3 audio. That causes odd problems with some programs. I usually use VirtualDub Mod and save out the audio with full audio processing as a WAV, then use ffmpegGUI to convert to AC3. But Aften should work similarly.

If you want to find out if you have VBR audio, Gspot will tell you, though so will VD Mod.

Don't know if the FFMPEG message means anything critical. I do the same as redwudz, opening the DV-AVI in VirtualDub, then save the wav as a separate file (direct stream copy of the source). From there, the AC3 is done with Aften. (I use Aften with the Wav to AC3 Encoder GUI.)
