  1. Hi, dear all.

I just have bought an original XXX-DVD movie from Germany.

But, I'm having problems with it: It can't be played by my DVD Writers on my PC. Both of them are LG and never give me problems before.

I just have tested it in 3 different ones and none of them could be read.

In my portable dvd reader, plays nice on my TV.

I have tested many other dvd's that I have and all play fine.

PS: the problematic dvd has NO scratches or nothing like that.

Are there any way to play these dvd? It is some kind of "protection" preventing some dvd's to be played in PC devices?

    Thank you.

This is a very good question. I haven't heard of this, but I suppose it's possible that there could be some new protection to prevent PC playback to try to prevent copying. You might try installing the free DVDFab HD Decrypter program and see if it can rip the DVD. If yes, you could burn a new copy without the copy protection.

You could also search on the internet with the name of the DVD and see if anyone has reported problems trying to copy it, but since it's German DVD all of the matches may be in German.

  3. Hello.

Look: even Windows Explorer doesn't recognize the disc !!!

I have tryed anydvd too. Nothing. PowerDVD crashes too. In my portable dvd player, it plays without any problem, appearing very nice on my TV.

It's possible it can be a bad authoring dvd. But, as I can see, there isn't any scratches on the surface of the disc. Or it's possible to be a kind of "phsysical" protection preventing any copy using PC, for example. Who knows?

I'll try some other things too. Other programs, for example.

Any news, I'll post here too, ok?

PS: any tips or help will be welcome.

    Thanks.

  4. If windows explorer does not show a disc being in the drive, there is nothing you can do.

  6. I could find a solution to my case.

Windows Explorer doesn't "find" or "read" the dvd disc. But, I try not to open any disc dvd directly , using some player, like PowerDVD or any other. I just put the disc and wait a moment.

It seems that nothing happend. But, when I try to open DVDdecrypter, it could read it without problem.

I could rip the disc content to my HD. And use Ifoedit to correct the ifo files ( problematic ones) and generating new ones. Probably PGCedit can do the same too. :P

After that, I could generate one valid dvd structure to be burned.

Finally, I could see the problem it was some "strange" dvd structure that prevent to be opened "directly", even using anydvd, dvd shrink or similar ones.

    It works in my case!!!

    Best regards.

I had the same problem with a old LG drive not reading some dvds. Just try another drive.

  8. Just try another drive.
I my case, I did that. But it doesn't works: the problem was not the drive, but the "logical" structure from dvd disc.

See the answers that I could get here too:

Hi. Sounds like the disc contained an "Autorun" file...

To see if there is an "Autorun" file on the original disc, hold the "Shift" key down (and keep holdiing it down) while loading the disc. If the disc eventually becomes "visible" in Explorer, select open and see if there are any files in the ROOT DIRECTORY of the disc, especially any with the word "Autorun" as part of the name...
    Thanks.

You missed my point. If you were to double click the my computer icon and it does not show that there is even a disc in the drive, there is nothing you can do. It would be a defective disc.

You also answered your own question. There was nothing stopping you from copying the disc.

Rule 1: If in doubt, upgrade units firmware, test again, then ask questions.

Most likely to have been produced on lowest quality media ... older player devices may not have playback issues.

Highly unlikely: blocked by registry or auto feature modifications ... try disc under linux os.
