  1. Do wireless (WLAN) signals go through walls or bounce off the walls?

both. You will experience a drop off of signal strength though walls but the amount will depend on the composition of the wall structure.

  3. Most walls pretty transparent, metal is bad. Certain stucco installations have a backing much like chicken wire that can cut reception dramatically. Glass is almost completely transparent. As I guess it's supposed to be.

It works the same way that any radio signal works, but it has a very short range to keep it contained in a small area.
