  1. I'm having some success backing up my BD disks to BD5. I also have had success converting my HD DVDs to BD5--but I am experiencing an interesting problem and I would appreciate any thoughts (it's a little complicated, so bear with me!).
I rip my BD's and shrink them to BD5 with BD Rebuilder. I burn the BD5 with Nero using UDF 2.5. The stream information from Power DVD is: Video: MPEG-4 AVG; Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 448KBs. The disk can be played on any of my computers as well as my Magnavox BD player, which identifies the disk as BD. It also plays on the PS3. When I load it into the PS3, the unit identifies it as BD.
I rip HD DVDs and convert them with the tools in "Clown" to BD format. If I burn a BD25, it works perfectly in all my players. However, if I shrink the BD to a BD5, I have problems. The Nero UDF 2.5 BD5 plays in any of my computers and Power DVD returns the same stream information as the BD disk in the previous paragraph. But if I play it in my Magnavox, it identifies the disk as 'DVD' and says it is unplayable. The PS3 plays the disk, but identifies it as AVCHD, rather than BD.
My question is, why? According to Power DVD, the streams are identical and I am writing them with the same burner settings. So why does a BD5 shrunk from a BD source burn as a BD disk, and yet a BD5 derived from a converted HD DVD source (with identical stream info to a "shrunken" BD) burn as AVCHD?

I have a feeling the issue might be with the audio conversion, but I'm not sure.

    Any insight appreciated!
    Best,

    Brian

  2. Fixed! I downloaded the latest versions of Clown and BD Rebuilder and the new BD5s are recognized as Blu Ray. I suspect that the conversion of the audio produced the earlier problem.
