OK, I just bought this in the week. I've been toying around with it. The capturing program it gives you doesnt capture the VHS well. The picture isnt sharp and I have bad lookin lines at the bottom. I tried using Virtual Dub, its quality was a bit better. I wonder why its so bad. The VHS of the movie was nice, clear, and perfect. Could it be my VCR? I am using an old one btw. Could it be my computer because it uses XP? Could it be the program?

Can someone help me? If you need any more information, just ask.

  2. What format/resolution/bitrate are you capturing at ?

  3. Well, I don't recommend capturing fairly noisy VHS sources directly to MPEG using the MMC. The garbage you see at the bottom is on all VHS tapes, you just don't normally see it because it is cut off by TV overscan.

Also, keep in mind that VHS video will actually look pretty bad no matter what when viewed on your high resolution, high dot-pitch monitor.

I have the exact same card ATI All in Wonder 128 Pro.

    If I capture 352 x 480 avi uncompressed from my Hi8 camcorder
    S-Video jack, then create an XVCD 352 x 240, 2600 kbps, I get excellent
    results.

I don't think you can blame the ATI card for poor VHS captures.

I believe it is mostly dependent on the quality of the source tape and the player feeding the tape to the capture card. Also, like the other post stated if you capture directly to MPEG and then do alot of editing with the MPEG file and then create a VCD from that, there will be a definite degradation in quality.

OK, I'll try changing the VCR. Sulik, my format is VCD Ready, so in other words MPEG. It's at the normal VCD resolution.
