    I think x64 was about 3GB and x86 2.4GB. What do you mean "dual-bootable"?

It says June 1st, 2010 and says it will start shutting your PC down every two hours starting March 1st, 2010.

My brother made two partitions on a drive yesterday and installed XP Pro on the 1st partition. If he installs Windows 7 on the other partition, will it be dual bootable or will he have to reformat the drive, load XP and use GParted? He made both partitions primary using Seagate DiscWizard.

If this RC is to expire as early as March 1st, 2010 then I assume it is safe to conclude that the final version is expected to be out before that date?

I'm seriously thinking of putting together a new computer (my current computer is getting too old now for certain things like H.264 which takes forever) and I want to avoid Vista if I can.

I hope to buy the parts on Friday and hope to get it by the following Friday. I wonder if I should just install this Windows 7 RC and see how it goes?

Otherwise it's my trusty WinXP Pro disc

I thought I read that Windows 7 will be released in October 2009 (was supposed to ship in August 2009) and if you buy a new computer a month beforehand that Microsoft will upgrade it for free if it ships with Vista.

Go for the Windows 7 RC. I ran the beta on a P4 3.0GH and it was screaming fast. I currently have it on an Atom based nettop box and it runs just fine. I will wait for the commercial release to upgrade my Vista machine, but I will install it the day it becomes available. Both XP and Win 7 RC will require a clean install for the final version of 7, so there is that hassle to look forward to.

When my brother went to install Windows 7, it saw partition 2 but said it wasn't NTFS (which it should've been) so he deleted the partition and windows 7 installed in the unallocated space.

After it finished installing, he had the option to boot to either "old windows operating system" or Windows 7. Pretty disrespectful calling it old windows operating system instead of Windows XP.

It's probably a catch-all for any other version of Windows you have on there. Not that I know anyone who dual-boots back to Win3...
(Yes, I know it'd be easy to do a version check on the other OS and mention which one it is on the boot menu...)

They'll definitely want to get this one ready before the holiday season. One reason Vista was a business disaster was because they waited until Jan of the following year for release.
