Put together my own PVR about a year ago. Ripped all of my DVD's to MKV's with AC3. MY PVR has an optical audio out to my receiver. Took me a while to get it set up so I got Dolby Digital, but I got it working. Everything was fine until a few weeks ago. Now I'm back to 2-channel sound. Been changing settings, etc. I can get VLC Media Player to play Dolby Digital, but not WMP 11. Since I'm using Windows Media Center, I need WMP to work correctly. All of the MKV's have 48000 sample rates. In my sound card config, Windows says it can't play 48000 rates. Not sure how that fits in.

    Any ideas?

Nothing was installed or uninstalled, I think it was just a Windows update.
