i'm muxing xsub subtitles to my avi movies before watching them on my dvd, but with some movies, subtitles are not shown on tv.
i figured out that if i recompress these avi's (avirecomp or autogk) the subs then work, but some of the quality is lost.
is there any way to recompress avi with absolutely no quality loss?

Short answer - no.
Long answer - if you use a larger bitrate than the source then you can minimise the damage from re-encoding. You might also spend some time looking at the difference between the files that do not play, and the files that do, and try to work out why. There may be a solution that does not require re-encoding. MediaInfo is a good place to start. Post the output here is you cannot read it and make sense of it yourself.Read my blog here.

thanks for your reply.
i've downloaded mediainfo and extracted informations from two movies; the first one doesn't work, and the other one does.
