Hoping someone can help. I ran into a problem last week. I use many different viewers for viewing and converting avi, mov, ect. (Mostly media player classic.) I use AVI2DVD to for my movie conversion mostly because it's free and easy to use. I installed KM Player about 6 months ago and haven't had any troubles with it but I only use it for KMP files only.
Recently I installed AMV Converter Freeware, FLV Converter 6.32 and mympcsetup which came with the MP4 in order to convert files to play on an MP4 player. After using them I unistalled all of them and somehow every video file on my PC was converted to KMPlayer. I managed to get some of my files back to AVI format after I reinstalled K-Lite codec pack. The AVI2DVD wouldn't load certain AVI files. So I uninstalled and reinstalled it. Used the program a couple of days ago then burned the ISO DVD image I had made but it wouldn't play on the computer or DVD player. I thought it was a just a bad DVD so I reburnt it. Still wont play. Then I thought maybe it was the movie that I had converted so last night I used AVI2DVD and converted an AVI movie file that I knew worked but still after burning it nothing. Then I noticed that the files in the Avi2dvd_temp/DVD/VIDEO_TS were diffeent. If I double click the VIDEO_TS IFO file type the movie plays fine on the computer. But now the VTS_01_1 on read KMP - DVD Movie File type. Could this be my problem? Shouldn't they be VOD file types.
Any help would be gretly appreciated.

KMPlayer is not an encoder. When Windows says KMP file, it only means that the video file is associated with KMP (means play in KMP when you double click on it). The contents of the file is still divx, h264 or flv or whatever it's encoded in.
You probably messed up your system with the installed encoders and K-lite. I would uninstall everything and do a registry cleanup, then install FFdshow, Haali media splitter and the encoders (converters) you need. -
KMplayer is VERY rude, and makes itself the default player for almost all media files.
I saw this same behavior when I had it installed (for about a week). I'm reminded of the bad old days of the Real Player.
All your KMP-associated media files will TRY to open automatically with KMplayer. I didn't like this, and uninstalled it without regret. Back to Media Player Classic for me.
Anyway, your VOB files are still vob files, it's just that KMplayer made an entry in the Registry that marks them as "KMP-DVD files" that way. Try a right-click, "Open With", and choose a different player, see if that works for you.
You might have broken something with all those un-installs and re-installs, and many knowledgable people advise strongly AGAINST CODEC PACKS. I've only installed a few stand-alone codecs as I need them, and have never had any codec problems.
Consider that you might have to go back to an earlier Restore Point when everything was working, see if it all works that way, and then, ONE AT A TIME, make your software changes.
I've found it is usually a better idea to install an app or codec, and thoroughly test everything (all my media and editing software) because the new installation may be having an effect on seemingly unrelated program. Once you are positive all is well, go on to the next item you want to install.grannyGeek ~~

s'funny, but I have not had this problem with The KM Player, and I use it all the time. Regardless, you can easy change the file associations in the Options->Associations.
I suspect the file associations changed only because you have KM Player as your default player, and so that is what windows assigned for files types previously held by the uninstalled software.
There is no KMP file type. It is still a .avi or .vob or .ifo file. It says KMP-DVD simply to tell you that it is going to be played by The KM Player by default. If you made VLC the default player for .ifo files the type would change to VLC. It means nothing, and is not the cause of your issues. If you untick "Hide extensions for known file types" under Folder Options you will see thsat nothing has really changed at all.
That the files play on the computer after conversion tells you that the problem is more likely with the media or burning process.
What media are you using ?Read my blog here.

First, thanks to everyone who replied to my post. Second, I'm starting to think that my DVD burner is my main problem. It's been giving me troubles for awhile now. When burning an ISO movie image or a game image or eve a music CD I have to turn the burning speed all the way down to 4x and it takes about 40 mins. to complete, if not I always get a messed up disc. I use Verbatim DVD+R and I have checked them with DvdInfo V1.00 RC4 and checked them here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm and they're one of the top rated. How correct the site is, that I do not know but I got the URL from here.
I also, tried to burn another movie ISO image and game ISO image this morning with both coming out messed up. I've been doing this for awhile and have never had any troubles with the media. I've tried different burning sofware including Roxi, Nero, Final Burner and a handful of others that's why I think the burner has pretty much had it. However, I will remove the K-Lite pack and try again if yall think it will help.
I really don't know much about cleaning out my registry and getting rid of things that no longer need to be there. (After 11 yrs messing around with a computer I should've learn that by now.) Anyone know of a safe and easy tool I could use?
Last, Any sugguestions or comments on a new DVD Burner for this PC? I know my PC needs upgrading from top to bottom, looking into buying a new one. But for now it's gonna have to do. Here is a link to my system Specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00583848&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1831238
If anyone has any comments please post'em and thanks again. -

CCleaner for general cleanup, codec sniper for codec cleanup. Run codec sniper first, then ccleaner.

Guns1inger already gave you good suggestions for the registry cleanup tools. -

I'm ready to yank this thing out of here. The burner use to work great 15 mins. at 16x for a DVD but now 40 mins. to burn a disc, and I'm turning out blank after blank ... tired of this ... nothings ever easy. -
I would try to solve the problem step by step.
Basically WMP should be able to play your files, which then means you have the appropriate DirectShow codec for that format installed. Other apps (not only players) may need the DirectShow codecs to be able to decode the format. I assume AVI2DVD is one of them.
That's why I recommended to install FFdshow (+Haali media splitter). This is a large collection of codecs in a single app that can be used by any program that needs them. This reduces the chance on codec conflicts a lot and the app has a nice interface to easily enable/disable certain codecs if desired.
Your other problem is that perhaps your burner is about to die. Samsung burners are cheap and have a good reputation. Do some research before you decide (see menu on the left "DVD Writers"). -
@kwik - there is no KMP format. Windows has still got associations to it, but that just means you have to associate them with something else. It does not mean you have to re-install k-lite. if you untick Hide Extensions as I told you to previously you would see that these are still just avi files.
Install a different player, associate the avi and mpg files with that, and most of your KMP associations will be gone.Read my blog here.
