I cannot by any means figure out a Partial video view area on all videos, such as a mp4 of God of war trailer.

No videos play with uncentered and un zoomed.

Ive searched all over for a solution for this problem and usually not very challenged when it comes to fixing computer problems but this one has me super stumped. I dont know how to explain it but ill try the best i can

    heres the screen
    ----------------------------------
    |------------------------iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
    |------------------------iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
    |------------------------iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
    |------------------------iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
    |------------------------iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
    |--------------------------------|
    |--------------------------------|
    |--------------------------------|
    |--------------------------------|
    |--------------------------------|
    ----------------------------------

ok with that being shown, i can only view the part of the video that shows where the I's are, thats in fullscreen, but if just in windowed mode, it just centers that part in the middle of whichever media player i had tried.

    Which are
    Windows Media Player
    Quick time
    Media player classic Bundled with
    Vista codec
    Klite codec
    xp codec
    codec sniper
    win7 codecs
    xvid codecs
(each uninstalled before trying the next)

The God Of War video plays in Quick time but in anything else you can see in the video it just shows the top right side of the video no matter the zoom in/out level

any help is greatly appreciated, ive never experienced this before.

i added the hyphen where i couldnt add a space, and if your still not sure what i mean, imagine a USA flag flipped around backwards is a tv screen, the part that views on my screen is the Blue area with white stars and nothing more.

thanks for at least reading this far

  2. Have you tried adjusting any of the other video settings in the player(s) e.g. zoom, scale, etc..

Do you have any filters enabled, either though the software player or decoder postprocessing (e.g. ffdshow filters) ?

Try another player like kmplayer, or vlc, what happens? unlike mpc and wmp, these do not rely on directshow, so if they work ok there (along with qt), this would suggest a directshow problem

Occurs on all videos and types (e.g. mpg, avi, m2ts) ?

cant say ive ever messed with the ffdshow settings as they usually work upon install.

ive tried many of each individual settings in the media players with little to no change

after reading your post ive tried to fiddle with ffdshow, it changes the vid but doesnt correct its off centerness

trying the links you gave me.... will edit this post

editing....km player no such luck same situation

  4. Did you try a non directshow player (e.g. vlc, mplayer, kmplayer) ? This will help to narrow down the problem

Check your graphics card driver settings, there are usually options for overlay placement and zoom

ok no such luck with vlcplayer
im trying to fiddle with smplayer and a out zooming setting just shrinks the video

i fingured with the nvidia contorl panel and didnt see any changing effects on the video or anything close enough to over lay zoom setting

    going to try vlc brb

vlc same situations, thanks for bearing with me thus far

  6. I suspect it's a video card driver setting with the overlay. Check again more carefully

You can also try changing output mode in the video player from overlay mixer to vmr9 (renderless) or another renderer other than overlay in the options. You have to close & restart the player for settings to be enabled

    thanks for your help poisondeathray

i have uninstalled the driver for my laptop

    dell m1530
    Downgraded from vista to XP
    Geforce 8600m

Downgrade being my problem, theres no driver available on the dell site for XP... so i recall installing a suggested driver on laptop forums.

However, since uninstalling the driver, and only running in windows default driver <crappy>, the videos work in their proper viewing mode... so it seems it was the driver.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, man... i appreciate it... been working on this for weeks, oblivious

now the task at hand is an appropriate driver!!!!!!

If anyone happens across this thread, and has problems with video go to laptopvideo2go.com find the latest driver for your operating system, download it and download the modded INF and replace the original INF with the modded one and the Crappy Nvidia check will be bypassed and drivers will be uptodate
