I been searching for a new riding mower for last few weeks .and i narrowed it down to 2 choices.1 Toro 2- Craftsmen
budget $1299-$1399
I have less than 1/3 of acre.
I like to hear feedback, and recommendations from real owners.
I'm sick of cutting grasseven with self-propelled lawn mower still I can't stand it .if it wasn't for the home association crap i will not even bother

Doesn't the HOA provide "landscapers" as part of your fees?

They differ everywhere, my Uncle is on a private lake with a HOA and the fees go towards upkeep of the lake and the water well.Originally Posted by Supreme2k

My neighbor has a nice Lawnman from Walmart. He rides around his yard in about 15-20 minutes and is done.

I'd by a quad, then just attach a lawnmower base to the back of it.
Rip it up of 30mins, and then go rip it up in the dirt for a couple of hours -
it's not a turbo-charged V6...just a single piston...nothing to themOriginally Posted by MJA
I used to fix mowers when I was 14 years old
people die, move into condos, etc. and sell their 2 year old riding mowers all the time
it still may be under warranty
but whatever...just trying to save you some money that could be better spent elsewhere -
Did you look outside where they sell all the plants?Originally Posted by MJAWant my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

That sucks. I'd see if another nearby Walmart carries any.
Next choice would be Lowe's.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I have one issue with Lowe's and Walmart.if the mowers breaks they can't fix it on the spot(workshop on site)they have to ship the mower to a dealer/repair shop(in my case 50 miles away) .it took freak'n Lowe's 1 month to get my push mower back, imagine how tall the lawn gets in one monthOriginally Posted by lordsmurf

Going off-topic here but just noticed this on the robo page:
You have the green spin everywhere AND completely false. It’s not just user friendly, but environmentally responsible as well, since it is powered by electricity and produces no harmful exhaust emissions. The unique mowing technique is based on Automower™ continuously cutting the grass in random patterns within the boundaries you decide.
Since about 70% of the electricity used to power the robo motor is generated from fossil fuels like coal which accounts for 50% of generation you most certainly have emissions. To dig down a little further you'd need to determine how efficiently the fuel is being used, a fossil fuel plant only runs about 40% efficient at best and you have additional inefficiencies in the power grid. Overall only a fraction of the energy used to create electricity actually makes it to the consumer.
Most importantly to quote them " Automower™ continuously cutting the grass in random patterns".....Certainly now whaere as efficient as a human cutting just what needs to be cut. -
561 hours is a lot...looks like it got sold anyway
no matter...bound to be lots more
best time to buy used lawnmowers and air conditioners is in the winter, of course

Local auctions may be good too, always some in county where I live. They always seem to have mowers available in good condition.

I would suggest getting a mower with hydrostatic drive. I have a Murry (Wal-Mart) with a foot controlled hydrostatic drive and think it's great. My yard has a lot of obstacles and the manual forward reverse shifting with my old mower got to be a pain.

that's what I have in mind.Originally Posted by hudsonf

the cheapest Automatic Hydrostatic from Toro is $1,899 for the LX427 model.
Sears on the other hand is selling Hydrostatic ones around $1299 and up (Craftsman YT 3000)
the nice thing about the Toro is the dealer/repair shop is only 3 miles away from me,but it comes with a high price

I pulled the trigger and bought the Craftsman YT 3000 model# 28922 for $1399 and a bagger for $279 plus 10% off a lot cheaper than the toro(too much for my pocket) 3 weeks for delivery(i guess high demand)
Thanx all for the help -

update 5-23-09
I just got my new riding mower today(Craftsman YT3000 Model 28922) after 3 weeks of waiting (high demand on this model) what a deference in time between the self propelled mower and the riding one
