I use dBpoweramp to rip music. I like it better than EAC.

I choose the [--alt-preset insane] mode for best CBR quality.

The command line is suppose to read [-b 320] but it always shows up [-V] which is VBR.

The same thing happened when I use Winamp Pro to rip my music.

Any idea why it's not showing up as [-b 320] when I use mediainfo to check?

In dBpoweramp, did you tick BitRate (CBR) and set/move the slider to 320k highest setting?

Yes, I figured it out earlier. You have to go in to the Meta Data & ID Tag panel. And you can actually choose what you want in your tag, it's pretty cool. It's the only program that lets you do that. Everything else is on automatic when it comes to Tagging.

I'm sure there are plenty of apps that allow variable tagging. I use CDex. You can always use utilities like Mp3 Tag Tools and Mp3/Tag Studio to handle filenames and other properties post-ripping, such as adding images etc, (folders or individual files).

    [--alt-preset insane] is usually [-V 3 -q 2]
I still don't understand that part, if it's encoded to CBR, the final encoder setting should be [-b 320]

I forgot to mention that I changed from "dbpoweramp CD Ripper" to CDex because dbpoweramp started to charge to access the database to get track names. Is that correct? CDex (and others I'm sure) access Freedb for nothing so you don't have to enter track names for known cds.

I still use dbpoweramp for converting wav to mp3.

STARMAN - In dbPoweramp CD Ripper there is a dropdown menu that you can choose which online database to retrieve your track info, including Freedb.

That's true for the older versions. I upgraded last year to find you now had to pay for an additional upgrade to get database access. Didn't "Illustrate" take over the software? When I try to get info it says "All Media Guide access expired".

    I'm using version 13.2

in the "META" dropdown menu at the bottom is "Retrieve from", where freedb is listed and works fine.

Yup, you're right. I got the dialog about the All Media Guide expired and gave up. I had to unselect that option to get rid of the dialog, then select Freedb.
