When I convert files in ffmpegX the resulting file either only has a couple seconds of audio, or none at all...
    Any thoughts?

1/ What kind is your source file (format, video codec, audio codec)?
2/ What format is your target (which preset)?
3/ What does your Process Information log say? (Press the blue "i" in the Progress window to access the log.)

There should probably be a sticky for questions of the "I tried (X) and it didn't work; what could be wrong" variety. It sure would speed up getting answers to the OP, and reduce the number of times someone here has to ask them to provide some actual information.

  5. I have noticed the same problem. I have generated a 2.7 .MOV file using screenflow. I copied the .MOV file to the from area on ffmpegx and told it to convert using default options. The video converts but I get no sound.
    My source file data says
    From MOV
    Video qtrle, rgba32, 1200x800
    Audio pcm_s16le, 48000 Hz, stereo, 1536 kb/s

    To AVI DivX (default)
Video mencoder mpeg4, 1200x800, 940 kbps, 29.97 fps, no crop (default)
    Audio mp3, 48000 Hz, 128 kbps (default)

The video looks good but there is no sound.

I have tried other combinations with the same .MOV source file
H264 with the x264 code works great with AAC sound. I am very pleased with this.

However, I have tried other formats and it looks like the sound file is generated separately if at all and not merged with the video file. You can see this at the end if the converting process.

H.264 video in an AVI container is generally a bad idea, as it requires a complexity that AVI was never designed for. But perhaps it was not your choice.

Sort of PCM, but with an outdated Microsoft twist. At least mencoder/mplayer seems to recognize it. The high res video contrasts the low spec (22050 Hz, 1 ch, s16le, 88.7 kbit) audio: odd combination.

The video stream and the audio stream seem to have the same duration (23.5 seconds). As far as I can tell from this log, they were both converted completely.
