Which verson of VISTA is 64 bit? I just bought Windows VISTA Home Premium and it is 32 bit - not 64 bit as I hoped. The 64 bit VISTA is dicussed on the Windows site ...........but it doesn't say how to buy it. Why?

    Thanks to all

The ones that say 64 bit. You must examine the OS box before buying, or make sure that the computer that you bought comes with a 64 bit OS.

You must look more closely before you buy.
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

  3. Nearly all the PC applications are 32-bits. In a 64 bit OS, the applications are running under 32bit emulation mode similar to DOS emulation, but with a lot of problems.

Most of PCs with 64bit OS in the office are hardly used, because they hardly work.

  4. 32-bit is NOT emulated. The comparison to DOS is inaccurate. It runs natively on the processor. The OS intercepts 32-bit calls to OS functions and then runs the 64-bit version but the main program code that is 32-bit runs as 32-bit. Typically, performance is the same if not marginally better.

64-bit is not unstable. If anything, it is more stable than 32-bit. The problem arises, as always, with crappy kernel drivers.

Only the Ultimate DVD comes with 32- and 64-bit versions. Owners of the other versions can get the 64-bit equivalent here:
